Virginia Foster Durr: Inside the Communist Circle Part 1

I have been working on this project for several months. It is ultimately about leftism from the 20s until the 1960s with a special focus on the New Deal and the subsequent Civil Rights movement. I re-read many excellent books and memoirs on this era when recording this episode, but the backbone for this recording and what ultimately draws all these sources together is Virginia Foster Durr’s oral testimony: Outside the Magic Circle, where she described her aristocratic upbringing in Alabama, and how she went on to serve various leftist causes including: The Southern Conference for Human Welfare, the Henry Wallace presidential campaign of 1948, and ultimately the Civil Rights Movement. I hope that when you listen to this episode, you come away with a better understanding on how leftism works, how these people think, the bizarre and often creepy nature of the Roosevelt Administration. Durr worked hard to act as a midwife for the world of today, and the reason why it is important to read these old sources, is because everyone alive is experiencing the consequences for good or ill of these gigantic social movements. This is not anywhere close to the full story, and much of my focus is on the New Deal in the South, but if you enjoy this episode, please consider reading more about FDR in some of the books I mentioned in this episode. I will provide a list of the works that I used later.
